The historic Merritt Store & Grill (1009 S. Columbia St., Chapel Hill, NC) presents free live old-time music from noon-2:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. Well-known fiddler Bob Herring sets up the music in the form of "invitational jam sessions" & over the last year, patrons of the store have enjoyed some really great old-time music along with their BLT's. Past performers have included: The New Dixie Entertainers (Mike & Marcia Bryant, Brett & Pan Riggs); the Hushpuppies (Steve Terrill, Molly Stouten, Jon Newlin & Amy Davis); Alice Gerrard & Beverly Smith; Nancy Crooks & Allin Cottrell; Joseph and Kasey Decosimo; Sarah Bryan and Peter Honig; Dave & Mary Winston; Ron Cole & Randy Johnson; John Schwab; & Wayne & Margaret &Martin & the Happy Valley Pals. BLTs sound great and the Old Time music lineup makes my mouth water. Please tell Mr. Herring that I enjoy his Fresh Coat CD!
