me too..I would prefer a 5th sting peg...but this 5th string tuner is definately unique.

On this test-model banjo, the peg & gear mechanism are the same (waverly) as for the pegs on the peghead. Nora designed this attachment system & her partner Patrick made a matching metal plate to hold it. It looked quite beautiful but the backward facing peg turned out to be an obstacle for me. She no longer has that banjo--she sold it to a clawhammer player a few years ago who has been happy with it. But I can see where this set up could become an issue for that as well.

This was the prototype, made in 2006. Just posted the 2 new ones, a clawhammer model for Dwight & a fingerpicking one for me. Dwight never plays much above the 5th or 7th fret so the 5th tuner wasn't a problem for him. For my banjo, the shank & tuner still point backwards, but the shank is shorter. I play mostly in a Charlie Poole-inspired "flatchord" style & my thumb runs up the middle of the back the neck when I move to higher positions, so it's not a problem.
