Hi Russell ... I'm pretty sure your is a banjo made in Korea or Japan during the 1990's give or take a decade ... The Peg head is consistent with banjos labeled 'Kay' or some such label during those days ... Most Originally had had plastic bushings on the tuners into the peg-head ... Pretty much a beginner banjo but then a LOT better than the one I started on way back in the last century (grin) ... The dark finish also was characteristic of these banjos ... They can sound good when set up well, and can be somewhat hot-rodded ... Strom banjos almost always had "STROM" Medallions (Brass Coin-like disks) inlayed on the peg head ... and almost all of them were fairly plain and Blond Maple, Clear shellac finishes, with not much in the way of decorations or inlay or fancy purfling or binding ... a very few had tone rings ... square-ish heels with a screw adjustment similar to the Kay Brand and some had resonators they were rather odd Simi-Flat Backed. and attached with a single screw that screwed into a bracket attached to the coordinator rods, similar to early Vegas ... and almost all had good quality friction pegs ... But fit and finish was rather sloppy on the Strom instruments that I have seen ... I have a mid line Strom I am currently working on to upgrade the tone ring and eventually sell ... But I am in no hurry to finish this project ... Ron Arrington ...
