My humble opinion:
It’s not a Vega. It’s not a Bacon, although it has elements of the Bacon FF Professionals, like the “ internal tone chamber” seen in it. I feel it’s a custom build modeling after a Bacon. And, as a long neck- that says a lot. The interesting thing- asides from it’s over-all visual appeal, is the metal dowel stick stirrup. It appears that the curve of the plated seems to conform to the inner ring perfectly. Now, I’ve seen this type of dowel stick hardware before, but never on an internal tone chamber. That stirrup could have been once used on a smaller shell and then adapted to this banjo? Or, that piece could have been used on a larger rim but now bent to accommodate the smaller diameter of yours…My view is it’s not a production banjo. Hardware has always been available and used by those building their own banjos. I’d like to see more pics of the tension hoop. Maybe that can reveal a custom or store bought tension hoop ?.. Sorry for long post, but I’m working on a Bacon FF restoration now and these types of puzzles are intriguing. ??
