A great fiddler and a great man. I met Mel when I was 12 years old in 1969. He was a constant source of encouragement to me, and some of my most valued tunes were learned from him. He truly was one of "The Greatest Generation".
There is a saying: "Immortality is living on in the memories of those we leave behind." To those of us who knew him, Mel's memory will live forever.
It was my honor and good fortune to have had him for a mentor and a friend.
