If memory serves, it was British author Oscar Wilde who said "A thing of beauty is a joy forever."
If it was he, then I shall claim you have made one Wilde-looking banjo.

Thanks, Mike, I treasure your understanding of building banjos. This one, being my first has been a delight. As you can see, it is made from a large gourd, and it actually came out better than I expected. I recently opened a star cut out (5 pointed one) at about 10 o' clock on the top side of the gourd. The star was about 1-5/8 across its points and really opened up a way for the ol' jo to raise its voice. The fourth and third strings really boom now. I have a 13 inch ministrel banjo by Eric Prust, and love its deep throated growl. This one, however, "breaks like thunder over China, "cross the bay."...like another one of our frinds, Kipling as I recall, expressed the arrival of dawn.
You see, we both are helpless romantics, Mike. Keep it coming!

It dawned on me that I put some of the first pictures of my banjo on my homepage. These show the bridge way forward. I was experimenting with its location and had it "jacked up" to the key of open "g" to play with someone. You know you can do that with a gourd banjo...kind of a stunt, though, seems to me.

John, I know these have been posted a while, but you and I are new friends, and I'm just seeing them! Beautiful work!!! My friend Chuck and I plan to build our first gourd banjos in the very near future. I'm excited about it!
