So I found myself being reflective before church at one of the local McDonalds. For the longest time I've been putting the letters of my name together to make something fun and creative. Just something to do to pass the time.I thought that Sunday however that just maybe the name that someone's been given might mean more then what people allow it to. So I began to think of those in the bible who were named according to their traits...but what about me. My first name Andrew came from my parents good friend who died in a car accident. Timothy is from my beloved Granddad Tim (Pop). Derton is the family name...but for me, I thought, there must be more...and here's what I came up with: This logo, this brand if you will, of my name. The A is made up of two arrows pointing up, with another one above. One arrow is there to represent my Will, the other is to represent God's. It's only when they're in line, parallel, that you will be completely be in His Will and not your own. This complete Will is represented by the top arrow, connecting the two. Only a straight arrow can bring you to the bulls-eye. The T brings everything together for the T is the Cross. You're supposed to die to yourself, die to your desires, your motives, your sinful self, everyday and pick up your Cross. For myself honestly defeating my own self is the toughest pill to swallow. I just don't want to give anything up. Time and time again, whether it's a need for that someone special in my life, or maybe dealing with financial issues, it's when I give it to Him that I find myself not longing but fully content. We all lose focus of that so many times. The only way possible is to leave it to God. Without him I can do nothing, but with Him anything is possible. It is the Cross that connects my Will with God's Will..Only through the Cross one can truly understand His Will..It's only through the Cross that your life can be complete. The D is for my last name, 'Derton'. I'm constantly reminded of the song by Dierks Bentley 'My Last Name'. I remember learning how to write it for the first time in Pre-K up in South Carolina. Such pride I felt knowing that that name was the same as my brother, my sisters, my mom, as well as my dad. The last name, for me, means so much more than the first two. The last name is not only held by your but by your whole family. Proverbs 22:1 holds dear to my heart: "A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold." No one, maybe a select few, really gets to know the true nature of your character. So many times people are left by one impression, one comment, about yourself that will forever hold with them. I've learned that it's the little things that build up someones perception. The D in this is my foundation in which everything is built. The Wise build upon the rock (Mt 7:24-27). My parents have taught me, my Heavenly Father has guided me. It's in this foundation that I plant my Cross, my Faith, my Will, my Love. John 15:5 - "I am the vine, you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit;apart from me you can do Nothing." My Foundation is what I build not only my lifestyle on but my whole Life. If anyone wants to further talk about any of this totally do. Yall have a great day now and take care! Andrew
