Newly acquired as of August 2009. Very bright (due to arch top tone ring). I will probably have it re-setup by somebody who knows a lot more about Gibsons than I. I acquired this instrument from a first cousin. It was purchased new by my grand father, Lloyd Tilley, from Westfield, NC in 1934 after having declared a certain tobacco patch to be his "banjer patch". The proceeds of that tobacco patch, so the family lore goes, was used for the purchase of this instrument - in the depths of the Great Depression. My Uncle John was the steward until his passing in 2008. Now, I have the honor of stewardship for (hopefully) the next 30 or 40 years. My son will hopefully hold it likewise in as much esteem as I. From the day that I starting playing the banjo at the age of 14, I have always wished that this instrument was in my possession. That was almost 40 years ago.
