My Appalachian Mountain Skinhead Fretless Banjo

Posted 4/11/2010 11:45:27 AM

This banjo was made for me by Charlie Glen of Beech Mountain, North Carolina. Charlie learned his banjo and dulcimer making skills from working with Stanley Hicks, whose mountain banjos were featured in the Firefox #3 book. This style of fretless skinhead openback banjo is unique to this part of Western North Carolina and the Hicks and Glen families' banjos are some of the most treasured.
