Worm Under Gear Tuners

Posted 1/27/2011 7:16:01 PM

This type of tuner was used on early Gibson Mandolins, but it was found that the string tension caused the tuner shafts to enlarge the hole over time. Chas B Rauch improved that design by adding bushings to preserve the hole. Most makers solved this problem by moving the worm over the gear. Note shape of Peg Head.
