I like the groove and spirit of it. I generally record my banjo with two mics, in the studio, so I'm not going to give you any detailied advice about doing home recording, because that's not my thang. If you don't like the tone, move the microphone around and "audition" different microphone placements until you're happy (enough). There were some very subtle touches in your playing which I thoroughly enjoyed. Even before microphones and recording, there are things you can think about insofar as producing brighter and mellow tones and such. The 'Swallowtail Jig' is similar to this one - and I would learn that one too. Good stuff!

I listened again and I really like your overall feel. It breathes nicely and you make good use of ornamentation. This is really a stellar job for your first. Be proud of it - it's very musical. You were faithful to the original melody: You captured it.

Thanks, it really means a lot, was a little worried I had missed the point in keeping with the original tune. The ornamentation was pretty much an accident that took me a while to repeat deliberately, it comes easier when I'm not concentrating too hard. It sounds a lot better with the DADGAD backing though, really brings a whole new level to it. Thanks again
