I think just about everyone has sat outside in the evening and played an istrument, read a book or just enjoyed that last few minutes of the day.  Here is a song about nothing more than that:

Watching the Sun Go Down

I was sitting on the back porch

Strumming this old banjo

I could hear the wind blow through the trees

And the Sun was sinking low

Well my mind was just a wondering

With the rise and set of the sun

And how my day was ending

While another’s had just begun

And only I could hear me play

Not another soul around

It was just the wind and me last night

Watching the Sun go down

And I felt a bit inspired

I strummed a chord or two

And soon the music filled the air

While I enjoyed the view

I began to hum a simple tune

With the banjo right behind

And for my inspiration used

The last of the sunshine

I sang myself a verse or two

Made it up as I went along

It became a lilting melody

Just a sweet and lonesome song

Now it’s out there in the wind somewhere

See I never wrote it down

It faded with the Sun somehow

And I know it won’t be found

A nice tune about some of the finer times in life. Somehow I think you really enjoyed that night and the winds of  inspiration. Thanks for sharing.

Nice song.  The last  verse especially is very well written, no cliches, nice conclusion. I've written plenty of those really nice tunes that are impossible to find again the next day. I now use a cheapo mini cassett to remember ideas.

My band partner Joel and I write all of our own stuff too. It ain't easy.

Hey Greg, I want some of that Bailey's Irish creme. I love your chord transgressions...kind of sounds like Waylon Jennings. I never did hear the bass? I do like your vocals with your beautiful sounding banjo! Great lyrics too, yup, you a singer/songwriter! Keep pumpin em out for us to hear!

I knew I was going to like this from the opening measures of the intro.  Fine song, very nicely done.  "Now it's out there in the wind somewhere, see I never wrote it down."  We are all but dust.
