This is a recording--off the radio--of a live performance of The New York Ramblers at the Second Fret in Philadelphia in 1965. At this time the Ramblers consisted of David Grisman-mandolin, Steve Arkin-banjo, Jim Field-guitar, and Julie Silber-bass. This concert was recorded by Pete Peterson (currently of the Orpheus Supertones) and his roommate at the time, Dave Howard (formerly of The Lazy Aces and Southern Schoolhouse Rascals).

I figure if I practice real hard I might be able to get up to about half your speed on that someday. Of course, it will be muddy and flubby. Nice.

The banjo picking sounds great! The speed is probably a little faster than it was when recorded, as the playback key of the recording is between Ab and A (rather than G). Of course, it is said that Lester and Earl tuned up a half step for Foggy Mtn Breakdown, so maybe this was done here. Maybe Steve Arkin could let us know what he remembers about whether they tunes sharp or not (if he reads this comment).
