This setting begins with a lovely countermelody composed by Angel Band Violinist, Cathryn Norris, to the tune composed by Ireland's National Composer, Turlough O'Carolan (1670 - 1738), performed by the Angel Band. This jig, along with two other compositions, honors the head of the O’Connor family. Maurice O’Connor made his fortune in England as a Barrister and returned to County Roscommon where he purchased Coote Hall and restored it to the O’Connor family. He then managed to secure his ancient family lands and manor house, Cappagarrane (Gortnamona) near Tullamore in County Offaly. This cheerful piece was written to celebrate the restoration of the O’Connor family holdings lost during the English Plantation Settlement. Album: Come Under My Protection © 1998-2010 The Angel Band, all rights reserved. David Behm, Guitar; Cathryn Norris, Violin; Emery Hutchins, Concertina & Bodhran; Bob Paul. Hammered Dulcimer; Mary Paul, Celtic Harp; Bob Frost. 5-String Banjo; Mark Rockwood, Mandolin. Banjo in G tuning played in F, no capo, finger style.
