Also knowen as "the girl I left behind me". In the war of 1812 our troops heard this tune from a British prisoner and made it their oun.Versions of the tune were published in Irland in the 1700s. Some hold the it was knowen here as early as 1650, nothing proves this.Our family collected it from a oldtime fiddler in Orleans IA.around 1935.
