An old English courting folk song. Michaelmas was the time where farmhands would move to pastures new to seek employment, and also the time when they'd have a little money, which this particular farmhand gives to the hapless milkmaid whose cow has kicked over and spilled her milk bucket. However, Michaelmas was also the occasion where milkmaids would also have plenty enough cash to survive a spilled bucket, so her plight is merely a device to hook the farmhand before he leaves the area.
