Thank you so much. Our version was pretty much a direct cover of the Steve Goodman version. I wish the lead vocal was stronger in the mix, but nothing I can do about it. This was recorded straight to cassette and I only have the digital copy.

Great version of a great song. You're selling yourself short. I played a direct version of the Steve Goodman version on guitar (like twenty years ago) and this is way more complex.

Thanks, Dan. He may have recorded it more than once. Maybe the less complex version was a live solo recording. I'm pretty sure we got the short melodic break and the unusual chord change at the ending from the version off his "Somebody Else's Troubles" album.

The version I have isn't live, but you're probably right about there being more than one version. Either that or it's bad memory on my part. In any case I think you're being extraordinarily modest. Any plans to record/post some of the Irish/country/folk stuff that you're playing now? My band plays the same sort of music and it would be great to hear someone else's take on the same sort of songs.

We haven't made a quality recording since our drummer's been ill. He used to record every practice at his house and then do some post production work on the best takes. Check out paddygoeswest.com for some posted recordings (mistakes and all) from the past few years. We've been practicing at my house since late last year. The setup here doesn't lend itself to getting good recordings. Neither does the way we're practicing. If running sound weren't such a hassle, I would try to record us live.
