I haven't looked into the history of this tune, but I sure like it. I've played along with it a few time over the years. Last month we had a mini-festival in Springfield (IL) and after the performance was done seven of us stayed around to play some more. After doing "Rocky Road to Jordan" Laura S (fiddler) started "Dubuque" and it really grabbed me this time. Now it's been my obsession tune on fiddle for a couple of weeks, but last night I found that it's fun as solo banjo, too.
