Funny, one of the older students heard me from the hall and thought that, too. I'm playing my Bart Reiter Whyte Layde openback. When I play with a large group (5 classes ended up doing this for the final school performance), I use the thumb pick more, strumming loudly.

I sounds a bit like a uke to me. I have a Bart Reiter Standard that I've strung with nylon and it can sound uke-like at times.

You teach first grade? Very brave. I can still remember my 1st grade teacher Mrs. Sweeney very well and can still remember some moments from that time, like when I brought in a bunch of cow bones that I had found bleached in a field for show & tell. My mother couldn't believe I did it.

They love to be chosen to play a rhythm instrument, such as the coffee can drum in The Little Drummer Boy, or any variety of folk instruments I can gather. I also make songbooks for them so they can read along, reading being the primary goal of first grade. Singing helps them learn concepts, too. This sounds like a new blog!
