This is a Macedonian folksong that my stepdaughter Abigail and I did as part of a Christmas/Hanukka present for her mom. Abby sings with the Yale Slavic Chorus and has been schooling me in the various GREAT Eastern European choral traditions. We were in a hurry, since in the three hours Madame was out of the house we got the idea, came up with three tunes, rehearsed, recorded and burned CD's of them. So I accompanied using the bottom two (of three) parts, and overdubbed the melody in the intro and third verse, but as soon as I get a minute I'll get a solo tab up. There's a bunch of this stuff that would be gorgeous on the banjo. Oh - and the present was a huge hit.

Thanks Janet! I think Abby told me it's about how this guy loves to live in whatever village it is, and watch the local girls. I guess when you think of it, it's a Macedonian version of the old 60's hit "I'm a girl watcher/I'm a girl watcher/Watchin' girls go by/My! my, my" :o) And yes our Abby really is a good singer! The absolute joy she takes in music (though she has no plans to do it professionally) helps keep me motivated in my own work.

You can youtube the Yale Slavic Chorus and hear them do this - it's generally the tune they come out to.

I wouldn't have guessed the topic of the song, but I'm not surprised. Guys often sing about girls!
