Nice "swing" to it, Yigal, yet very different from the one I learned long ago.

For years I knew only of the Irish song/slip-jig that goes by the Rocky... Dublin name. Although I had a CD of Wilson Douglas that has "Rocky Road To Dublin" on it, I got to learn it - a G major tune - only last year. When Miles joined our music scene, and heard our playing of Douglas's version, he drew our attention to the one we play in the posted clip. As in the case of many other tunes, Miles' versions are compilations of notes from different sources, plus his own very clever contributions. When I asked about his source, he referred me to Alen Sisson's rendition which is on Slippery Hill (and a transcription of it is probably in the Milliner-Koken book). While Miles' version is in "A mixolydian," Sissio's is mostly an A minor/modal tune. If memory serves, the pitch of Sisson's rendition puts the tune in G (minor/modal). It is still possible, that his fingering was of an A tune, but the fiddle was tuned a whole tone down. I did my own transcription of Sisson's rendition, taught myself a "distilled" version of it, and was playing it strictly for myself for awhile. I keep Sisson's version for myself because its melodic line contains quite a few difficult to memorize phrases.
