For the Tune of the Week, 5/31/13. The story of the tune is sad, so its beauty is bittersweet. A husband came home and his wife was gone--whether taken by Indians or Union soldiers is unknown, but both tales are given as the tune's history. I'm playing it in Adam Hurt's tuning (fDGCD). You can download for free a new CD by Chance McCoy with Adam and others on the link in the TOTW (or you can leave a tip). There are good liner notes, too.

Janet, I'm running out of words to tell you how much I love your playing. Goodness gracious!! what a moving performance after reading the story.

Thanks, Travis. You treat us so kindly on BHO and you know I think highly of your playing. I always find the Tune of the Week's choices rich in quality and the modal sound is always so appealing.

This one is more sad, you are right.

Thanks for listening, Rick. Any time I can learn a piece from Adam Hurt's playing I know there's something special to be had. There's a subtle emotional depth within his style.

Wow, what a tune. I really enjoy Adam Hurt's playing as well. Also like playing in that tuning, whether in cADGA/dBEAB on the gourd banjo, or in fDGCD/gEADE.

Ah, that's interesting, Noah. Glad you wrote the timings you use. Adam plays lower on the David Hyatt banjo he uses. Did you also check out the Tune of the Week for this tune a few weeks ago? Sad story behind it.

I remember seeing the post, but never read it. I was listening to the jukebox last night and listened to the tune, and came here to see the song details.

I've been taking Slype lessons from Adam. He does a lot in fDGCD tuning. I knew that's what he'd done on this tune once I tried to figure it out. It's the same tuning Chris Coole was using when he wrote Skating on the Harbourfront. It's also common in Cumberland Gap. If you want tab for Little Rose let me know.

Thank you, but I've got it pretty down pat by ear so far. Thanks
