I recorded this for a video game I made for a programming class. I got 100/100 on the project yet there are a few errors in the single string part here... This is a tb-1 9519-3 with a McPeake tonering, and a conversion neck. Banjo purchased from Curtis McPeake in 1997. Still has the original McPeake ring in it!!! (As a dannick would not fit right...)

I tried to play this really close to the record fastest five strings alive, except for the one part where the mandolin part kicks in, (played on a tenor ukelele with a flatpick)
It is just a shure sm57 mic, directly into the computer and using Audacity open source recording software.
I have a Mackie Board and better mic's yet this was done "down and dirty" for that video game backing track...
(Kind of like the Dukes of Hazzard going off jumps and stuff...)Thanks to everyone who has listened to it, I was at the reno revival from 1995-99 and that is where I learned how to play this song pretty much, and the BNL tabs also from way back in the old days...

I was playing this song way before Jason was putting out his CD's but they are very close to what I am doing here, so he probably used tabs and the record also or just figured it out off the record.
However you figure it out doesn't matter, just play it and have fun! JM I listened to the record at half speed/same pitch a lot, to get the accents right and just listened to it over and over again, and over and over, and over and over.. again! Half Speed really helps, as you can practice properly all the timing and then when you play it at full speed you get it way better in my opinion. I also do this for Kenny Baker fiddle tunes, any tune that is really fast like this. Unless you are mark O' Connor or somebody like that, you probably have to work it up to tempo slowly and still will have a few missed notes in my opinion every time... some of that is picks and strings and setup. I play better with some picks than others, and also ligt guage strings are easier to hit the single string notes with.
Or JD Crowe guage, something med-light...
