Three versions from my Skype lessons with Adam Hurt. The first one comes from the fiddling of "Uncle Norm" Edmonds (born in the 1890's) of Hillsville, Virginia and is one I arranged as an "extra credit" homework assignment. The other two come from Parley Parsons (born 1864) from near Galax, Virginia and from Paul Brown's recollection of the B part.

Thanks, Jimi. The banjo is a Mac Traynham Whyte Laydie openback. A Virginia banjo playing a tune from Virginia....

The tuning is fDGCD. Adam calls this Sandy River Belle tuning. It's also known as Cumberland Gap tuning. He teaches many beautiful tunes in this tuning and says that tunes in the key of G are good candidates for it. Just tonight I was playing three he'd taught me in SRB tuning--Josie-O, Old Beech Leaves, and Sheep and Hogs Walking Through the Pasture--all from his Earth Tones CD. There's a unique sound to it, isn't there?!
