In the 1920's Swedish lute player and singer Evert Taube used the melody of ''My Darling Nelly Gray'' to his own lyrics. This is not a translation of the American lyrics. The song concerns a rather melancholic man who remembers the time he spent with his love in Tapalqué in Buneos Aires.

This music goes around the world as it encompasses the present as well as eras gone by. Is that you singing? Very nice, and the banjo is a wonderful accompaniment. Darling Nellie Gray is one my husband and I enjoy playing and singing, too.

That is me singing, yes. Thank you! I really love Darling Nellie Gray too. I actually found the original version through this one. Which is great because that's what first got me into American folk music!
