Nice playing! All of my tunes posted on here were recorded on my phone. One thing that works for me is placing the recording end of the phone pointing away from my banjo. That way, the sound has a chance to dissipate a little in the room and doesn't overpower the mic. Not a perfect solution but, then again, we're recording with our freaking phones!
Also, if you have basic recording software, a wee bit of compression helps as well. GarageBand on my Mac works okay.

Thanks for the compliment and advice, Chris. I've had better luck recording myself on fiddle with the mic pointed down, but I think the surface I had my phone on in this recording may have also been a factor. Oh well.

Recording has improved my playing a lot, especially with the banjo. To me, my playing sounds much different while I'm picking than when I'm listening back. I hear and change things that I would've ignored otherwise.
