Traditional. I heard this on Pete Seeger's "Birds, Beasts, Bugs & Fishes Little & Big." I stole a lick from him, and my verses are largely the same. Otherwise, it is my arrangement.

Paul Westerburg (formerly of The Replacements) put a rock version of this song on one of his solo albums. It's nice to hear it in it's more natural state.
