Genre: Bluegrass / Playing Style: Clawhammer and Old-Time
Here's When I Lay My Burdens Down, a third cut from our newly released Gospel CD. As a part of the thread discussion on use of clawhammer as backup, this song requires sparse instrumentation, but the banjo's use of chops (short and hard) serve as POWERFUL reinforcers of the beat as well as give the song momentum. I've also thrown in what Chuck Leyda (the singer) calls "flimsydiddles"... little music ornamentations that either tie a tune together between a verse and chorus or finish off a phrase.
