These are three of my favourite hornpipes, with triplets flying everywhere, especially on The Rights of Man. Robbie Walsh plays amazing bodhran - you can hear why he became the 2008 All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil Champion. Gabriel Donohue improvises on piano in grand Irish style. This is a bouncy medley played at a fairly fast tempo. With gratitude to Mel Bay for letting me upload this here, another sample from my first book/CD, Complete Book of Irish & Celtic 5-String Banjo - find it here: http://www.melbay.com/Products/95759BCD/complete-book-of-irish--celtic-5string-banjo.aspx

These three I don't put together anymore because I like playing 'The Rights of Man' with 'The Belfast Hornpipe', which is also in the book. These are brisk for hornpipes, and you wouldn't want to play them any faster than this, or they would get smoothed out and begin to sound like reels. I use a dotted-eighth-note feel here, and in Longford where I live, players tend to play hornpipes without the bounce, and they are almost slow reels. It depends on the session and the players. In Clare, you would tend to hear more lilt or bounce, and the tunes would be more laid back.

Hey, thanks, your version of 'Rickett's' is "in the pocket" (lovely Keith-style) and would fit with any of these, so thanks for saying so. I really hope we get to pick at North Wales Bluegrass....

Yes man your book is great as is your playing. It is quite a challenge to play those tunes.

Hello Sir! I enjoying your playing style very much. Its so cool to transcribe irish tenor banjo to 5-string banjo. I try to learn these hornpipes by now. Thanks for inspiring me.
best wishes

Great medley - I can pretty much keep up with you on Cronins and Rights of Man - but no chance (yet) on Liverpool hornpipe (without droppig notes). Here in Manchester (UK) it is nearly always played with hornpipe swing.
