More About Me
Gordie Sadler teaches Scruggs style 3 finger picking, which is the most popular style for the banjo in bluegrass music. The focus of the class will be on preparing the beginner student to learn to play chords and rolls to allow the student to begin enjoying pleasure of making music with other musicians.
Gord’s method leads the student through the basic chords and right hand rolls using simple melodies and then progresses to a “building block” approach to integrating some standard phrases or “licks” to enable simple improvisation. The classes will focus on techniques of learning by ear, as well as understanding the use of written tablature to facilitate continued learning after the class is over.
Gordie has been playing banjo since 1970 and is a founding member of B.C.’s longest running bluegrass band “5 on a String” established in 1989. He has taught banjo workshops at regional bluegrass festivals, the Pacific Bluegrass Society and the “Mountain Fever Bluegrass Workshop” and the Gavin Lake Fiddle ‘Treat. He also hosts the BAMA Bluegrass Jam every 2nd and 4th Thursday at the Bergthorson Academy of Music in Pitt Meadows B.C
