Just got through listening to Jimmy Arnold @ Carlton Haney's Festival in Watermelon Park, Berryville, VA July 4, 1969 

WOW, and only seventeen years old at the time. What a great talent he was.

I thought yesterday's Landreth Collection update was big...until Ken sent me much more 1971 Bean Blossom overnight.

There are three sets from July 17 and eighteen additional sets from June 19.

I wish I did have more Allen Shelton. Stay tuned - Ken may find some as he goes through all his tapes.

Actually I have a story of meeting Allen in 1969. He was just as nice as he was talented!

Last year Gusto Records issued a compilation of his work and embossed one of my 1969 photos right on the CD...

I particularly enjoyed hearing the contests that Ken had recorded.  It was cool hearing some of my friends in that event!  Next time I see Ed I'll have to congratulate him. He'll be amused. 

Also of note, the guitar player with Harlan Blount is Chuck Nation, later a member of the Bluegrass Alliance.

As usual, after I thought I'd found them all, I "discovered" 2 more cassettes. Actually, one was already digitized and the other
was in a stack right next to the computer. What great organization!

Anyway, here are two recordings of Peter Rowan and Tex Logan from the 1979 Berkshire Mountains Bluegrass Festival.
Lamar Grier is on banjo, and his son David comes up for one number in Set 1.

I don't remember who was on bass and I'm guessing Barry Mitterhoff was on mandolin, but I'm sure someone will let me know.

I probably guessed correctly about Barry Mitterhoff on mandolin and it looks like Roger Mason on bass.

This last one is a keeper! I especially love J.D.'s comments at the end (you have to listen closely). J.D. was a rip during this whole session and I wish a could get a beginning to end copy of the video. It was truly a memorable experience. The 4 Masters really had a good time playing and joking around. I am so blessed that I got to see it all.
