Gold Tone has a left handed AC-1 version. I have a right hand version. It is my only open back currently, and for the price and tone I don't know if I could find a better alternative brand new. They have a comparable resonator version also (AC-5) but the price jumps up quite a bit from the open back model.
I just looked up Thomman Music in Germany. They have their own brand Harley Benton 5 string lefty. It is sure to be made in China so you may want to source which of the factories that supply them. The brackets for mounting the resonator might be a giveaway. You may also go into the Made In China website and do a search on lefty 5 string banjos.

Thanks for the recommend. I have registered with the site and have been approaching various vendors. I have some promising leads.
