If you're talking about the new ome line by gold tone., you are able to turn the stick one way or the other by hand for adjustments. Trial and error, a little turn will do a lot. I have the same round dowel stick design on my new Starr banjo and it works well.

A rim stick is square and tapered and only holds the neck tight in place .
It’s for older banjos.
The round dowel
Is used on simpler or spec, or vanity newer models with newer hardware and easier adjustment .
OldFrets is right, there is way more knowledge required to adjust and install a rim stick including shims.
Ome is very high end.
Rim rods use the top one closest to the head to firmly attach the neck tightly. Loosen the back nut before loosening or tightening the lower rod. Use a 1/8" drill bit in the middle hole(s) to grip the rod!
The lower rod, then is used to slightly warp the rim to raise and lower the action, then all nuts are re snugged.
Each rod is held with a 1/8" drill bit to loosen and tighten. On line instructions can vary some, sequence is important.
