03 chevy 4x4 4.8 auto trans ... this one really bugs me. every so often and i mean every 6 months,, sometimes a year or more goes by i will have a gremlin jump up and bite me in the a$$... it happened yesterday sitting in line to get meds.
out of nowhere it started skipping and idle went down and shut off.. i cranked back up same thing,,,, this went on for 3 or 4 minutes , so i finally got it running backed out and parked .
i started it again and it cranked up i revved the engine a few times and it skipped then cleared up. driving home i felt it hiccup once after that it runs perfect.
it did this about a year ago while i was driving ...
today i cleaned the mass airflow unit and she cranked right up idled smooth and ran perfect... it gives no check engine light ... so i don't know what could cause this and be so infrequent .... anybody got some ideas ???????

Just shut down on a whim..driving or parked..n start right back up...
hey i am up for anything right now,,,,, thanks
I had a MAF, Mass Air Flow sensor and the IAC, Idle Air Control valve go bad on my Ford ranger years ago. Similar symptoms to what you’re describing. Caused the truck to idle rough sporadically. Easy little hooberdoobers to replace
and not too expensive. Maybe research those on your particular vehicle and see what other folks have to say.
Good luck…I can’t stand chasing gremlins
i cleaned the MAF thursday and checked what i could check.
well i drove it today to go get some system cleaner and some 93 gas.. probably 30 miles round trip with a few stops here and there. on the way back i stopped at my favorite hotdog shack went in and and as i was leaving is sputtered just a second and then went on... 10 miles back to the house it ran fine.
i took it to the local parts store and they checked it with their scanner and found no codes......

oh yeah i forgot to say ,, while i was out today i stopped at the parts house and got them to put their scanner on it..its a lot nice then mine.... no codes old or new....
well i cleaned the throttle body this morning ,, it was nasty..... seems like it idles better now or it could just be me.
i ordered a new factory gas cap,, oem gas filter and oem oil pressure sending unit... the oil sender has been out for a while.
and i figured it won't hurt to get the fuel filter replaced and incase the gas cap is leaking i will put that on too.
kinda shootin in the dark here now,

What a hassle…sorry Terr. Those spindles are not too terribly hard to remove and then rebuild, just not very enjoyable. There are 100 other things I would rather be doing. Or…sometimes you can find a rebuilt one already on eBay. Shows up in a box and just slap her on!
My little John Deere…I went out to mow the other day, and the little started solenoid wheel thingy that engages the engine flywheel and spins it when you turn the key…decided to not work anymore. I went and got a prybar and forced it up then turned the key…and she started. I did that about 3 times and it all of a sudden just started working again…..Magic!!!
since i cleaned the throttle body it hasn't happened again... but i am always leery of it now. i am going to take it and get the fuel filter and oil pressure sensor replaced and have them put it on their 12,000 dollar machine on it and see if they find anything.
i may if i can afford it get them to replace the crankshaft sensor too.
had a guy out here friday to give me a price on some tree work he started at 2800.00 and i kept giving him said story about how bad off i was and got him down to 2200.00 dang brother !!! so i am saving up some more.. i had 1500 put back and thought ,,well that ought to cover it but NOOOOOOOO !

never had that problem... any time of year hot cold rain or shine i can go out and it fires right up..... the only common denominator is it has happened both times after i have drove it several miles ,like 30 to 50 ... it has never done it short tripping.
