I'm really tired of the trashy (language and implications) emails that I am getting in my spam folder on AOL. I am very careful on my computer and never visit sketchy sites that would prompt any of the trashy emails. If any of my family were to ever see any of these it would be embarrassing even though they were unsolicited and in the spam box. I do not know if women get these same emails or not. When I check my spam folder I check all of the offensive emails, click on the three dots on the right side of the screen and click "Block Email". I am not sure that this works, as I continue to get them.
You can also go to your email settings on AOL and use the filter for incoming emails, but apparently all that does is sends the offensive emails to your Spam folder and not directly to trash. Anyone know any other solutions?
PS: I never click on "unsubscribe" to unwanted emails.

Blocked or sent directly to trash. Is that unreasonable? I don't even want to read the gross title of the emails.
Yes, women get these trashy e-mails, too. I usually have 1 to 3 or 4 every day. I just ignore them and click on delete. Do they come back? Yes, but I continue to delete them. Eventually, maybe whoever is sending such trash will get the hint I don't like/want/read them and quit sending them.
Maybe on a cell phone you can block them. I haven't found any way to do that on my computer. There may be a way, but I'm not aware of it.

Thanks Sherry! I just get tired of seeing them. Of course, I delete them, but as of late I am just marking the offensive ones first and click on "block all future emails" and "delete existing emails" and then delete all of the other spam emails in one swoop.
There is an app called 'mailwasher' that you install on your PC. It looks at your email account and shows you what is there. From that you can select the ones you don't want and 'bounce' them back to the sender and it is supposed to emulate an undeliverable email. Hopefully your email address get removed from their system. I haven't used it in a long while.
Given the rise in electronic mail generation software, the send of this mail generates huge amounts of addresses variations and those that get sent are legitimate addresses.

I have email accounts with 3 different providers. None of them provide this service. Neither would I expect the snailmail postal service to block any mail addressed to me. They'd be breaking the law if they did. And you'r junk/spam folder is exactly where suspect mail is supposed to go. Actual deletion is always your decision - which is exactly how it should be.
My email client (Outlook) does allow me to set up rules that can, for example, move emails from spam, or a specific domain, or not on a safe list, to trash on arrival. Maybe that's what you want.

Yes ...... seems like "trash on arrival" would not violate any kind law or other email protocol.
Problem is that you might trash acceptable emails. Many years ago there was an epidemic of emails offering tools and techniques to enlarge part of the male anatomy. I managed to set up rules to trash most of them. I was annoyed when a mail entitled '11 or 12 inches' got through ( a bit ambitious, I thought). I then realised that it was a mail from the late lamented Banjo-L about banjo head sizes.

I too have to look at the title of the email to see if it is something I should see and if not I just delete all spam emails. I have just recently started checking the most offensive ones and clicking "block sender" for those and them mass deleting all of the rest. I'm just not sure that "block sender" really blocks anything.

I don't know if that is tongue in cheek .....but yeah, they are still here. They are kind of like banks ...... I would be happy to change but I am sure I would hate any other service just as bad ...... so why bother!

That was my memory of it too. Ah - the old days! I don't feel nostalgic about that at all.

Originally posted by TexasbanjoWell, I have to tell you folks: AOL is still alive and well. I still use it and do remember the old dial up and the awful noise waiting for a connection. Glad that part is over.
But I do miss "You've Got Mail"!
Farther off topic that being onto a tangent, but stoopid stuff like this https://www.facebook.com/reel/1221153896693878 makes me "wonder." I normally pass them by, but as an inveterate putterer, I occasionally check one out. By doing that am I the stoopid one? ... falling for click bait? .... or do they show something legitimate that I don't get?
