I am so very sad to hear this news and to read his obituary. During the pandemic he agreed to online lessons with this very much a beginning tenor guitar and later tenor banjo player. He was always very gracious and patient with my efforts and at every lesson generously gave me his guidance and shared his knowledge of the tenor instruments. He introduced me to the playing of Eddy Davis, Elmer Snowden and Tyler Jackson. Even during our last text message conversation about a year or so ago he kept encouraging me to keep on learning and practicing and playing.
He was a wonderful musician and a fine gentleman. Tony, I miss you.
Oh no, I am very sorry to hear of this. I never met Tony but he was a regular contributor here on the jazz tenor banjo forum and, along with Eddy Davis, inspired me to pick up the instrument back in 2016. He always gave encouraging words and advice to beginner players like myself. I hope his youtube channel can be preserved.

Tony had a Friday Routine.
Every Friday he would take his mother to have her hair done. And while there to visit with her friends at the “beauty parlor’!
So Tony was set loose for two hours or so.
He used the time to visit a local Thai restaurant. They always held his table.
My wife, Margaret and I were fortunate enough to share an occasional meal with Tony there. There were always another friends of his in attendance.
We were all attracted to his life force, much laughter … and a good meal.
We will go there tomorrow , pay homage to his seat and raise a toast.

Ever so sorry to hear of Tony's passing, and my heartfelt commiserations to his family, and all those close to him.
I've got very fond memories of Tony's many positive contributions, and comments, here on the Hangout, and we're goin' to miss him here, that's f'sure. Tony was a proud fan of both Eddy, and Cynthia, and loved to tell us about how they influenced his playing, for the better.
RIP Tony. ![]()
I am so shocked and sad to read this news. Tony and I met and became friends many years ago at the first New Orleans Traditional Jazz Camp as aspiring students of Don Vappie. (I have young friends who are down there this week working with Banu Gibson, Katie Cavera & others.) A finer gentleman and more thoughtful banjo player would be impossible to find. My only hope is that somewhere he and Eddy are again sharing some tunes and laughs together. Thank you, Tony, for making the world a gentler, nicer place throughout your stay here!
