Notifications seems to be broken. Before the server change, any notification not delivered on the live site within 15 minutes is then emailed to the member. This seems to be broken.

Now, I see the notifications on the right side of the screen from posts referencing me made a day before by other members. I am no longer receiving notices by email at all.

I hope this makes sense.

Yeah, Notifications is broken.

It used to be if you're on the site and someone tags you or PM's you you'd get an on screen notification. If you've logged off or aren't online the message is sent to your email address after 15 minutes.

So when I log in I see Notifications (2) on the right side of the screen. They notices were from about 2 hours ago. They're still sitting there. No email sent to me.

TO make it worse, I was online when those posts were made that the notices referred to. I got no instant notice at all.

And to make that even worse, now those notice won't go away until I click on the link for each notice, even though I have already been to that thread and read the post. Nope. I have to go click on the notice link again and only then will it go away.

I don't know if it's broken or that's by design. Either way, it seems to be a step backwards... IMHO.

Not even a peep? I looked at my notification preferences and it is set to Email Only. I don't get any email notifications of any kind now. It's all web notices. It's broken.

Just a heads up to let you know I'm looking into this, Frank. Haven't been able to replicate any issues on my side, but I'll keep at it.

Thanks Eric for looking into this. Just as a reset, I just now changed my notification preferences to something else, then back again to what they were (All Members / Email Only) to see if that changes anything.

Would screenshots of anything help? If so let me know I'll grab what you may want to see, if anything.

Here may be part of the problem: I went to Frank's page and tried to send him a PM. When I clicked on "Send a private message", I just got a blank page and no way to send a message.

^^ prompted me to check.   The PM/dialog box (?) appears in the upper left corner just like usual.  [I didn't follow through and try to send a PM, but the first part looks okay.]

Okay Ken, this post made 6 hours ago which tagged me ... no email notification, and it incremented the Notifications alert on the right side of my screen.

So I'm curious, now that I repied to your post, Ken, you shouldhave received a notice of this post (by email?) DId you?

Just an update to Ken's and my testing of PM's ... he received my PM okay after the 15 minute window and replied to that by direct email to acknowledge receipt.

So apparently it's broken for only some folks...? Kind of like Paul's broken page he posted about above ... where it seems to be broken only for him?

Anyway, Eric, I hope this add'l info helps with the code sleuthing ... thanks for taking a look!

The link to my profile from this ad I just created:  https://www.banjohangout.org/classified/115892   goes to the other guy.

Also I'm having problems with the ad. The Hangout only let me upload 5 photos. Couldn't upload a second group of 5.  When I try to edit the ad text or add the URL for the forum discussion of the add, I get an "Internal Error"  with a message that says:  There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

I have worked around this problem by uploading all the photos to my Library and attaching them all to the discussion topic for the ad.

Oh my, Ken. I went to your ad, clicked on your name there, went to your profile and it says you're somebody else (don't want to put the name here he's innocent LOL) and his location, not yours, then your correct screen name below that.

I think that member has "oldhickory" as screen name Ken's problem may depend on the space in "Old Hickory"

Yes, Frank and Jan. Our having essentially the same handle is the problem.

As you can learn if you scroll back through this thread, Eric fixed the links that I knew were misdirected. But I didn't know until I posted my latest Classified ad that the problem still exists.

The HTML for our respective versions of "Old Hickory" are different.

I've thought from time-to-time about changing or getting rid of my handle -- same as Ken LeVan gave up "Old Fogey." Back when I first came to the Hangout, only handles appeared on our forum posts. Or real names if we used those as our handle. Then at some point -- and I absolutely do not remember when -- Eric changed the format so that our real names appear on forum posts together with handles. Sort of makes handles meaningless. So I might just stop using it.

It's nothing I use else elsewhere. Doesn't mean anything to me. It's really a joke: I'm old (well, I was only 58 or 59 when I came here) and I live on Hickory Avenue.

Old Hickory <-- the right one LOL

Hold off on that. There are two lines displayed for your identity on BHO, but both only show to BHO members when logged in. If you log out, only the top ID is shown to the general public. So for me they see "banjoY' and nothing else. You only see the second line when you're logged in. So it offers you some level of screening out most of the world that's never gonna log into BHO, they at least won't see your name, only your handle.

The problem of not being able to edit the ad persists. Whether I try to add a link to the Swap Shop discussion or just add text to the ad to tell people to go to the discussion to see more photos, the Hangout returns the "Internal Error" message, so my attempted edit fails.

That issue was tied directly to your particular ad (Archtop Pot: Gibson 4-Hole Tone Ring + Janzegers 3-Ply Rim - Set or Separate) because a weird special character was breaking the save to the database.

Removed that and now it all saves fine.

I have not been able to post any videos in to the system for days now. It keeps giving me an external error after entering all information and submitting.

I'm assuming the weird special character came from the system and was not anything I typed. I certainly don't remember using anything than what's on the keyboard.

Not at all.

Every time I try to enter the Hangout, it says I am Paul Risell from MD. I doubt either of us is happy with that.
