I realized yesterday that I had not seen any posts from Mander lately. Reviewed all the available past pages for this forum and nothing in them from her. Did I miss something about her being away for a spell? Anyone know anything that they can share with the group? Hoping she's okay whatever the reason might be.

She does seem to wander off from time to time, and then come back... But I share your hopes that she's all well and good!

Now that you have mentioned it, you are right …….a no show for quite a while now. Hope she is ok and back soon.

Last Visit 4/17/2026 about 12 weeks ago.

She and I never interact here but she's on the radar. I dropped her a PM letting her know of BHO's concern ... a wellness check. I hope all is well with her and her family and friends.

I shall insist that she drop us at least a brief note.
Nice to know that others think as highly of her as I do.
Met her once, on a trip that way to visit relatives.

Well...

since you insist.

I ran out of thought provoking, stimulating and/or irritating thinks to say? My computer mouse died and I kept forgetting to replace the battery? I gave up all my worldly possessions to follow the Men Next Door Almost Naked Tour?

My mother passed in January; she was ninety-seven. Don't worry about condolences; right or wrong, I have yet to mourn the passing of my parents, because they haven't left me. I quote them both almost daily. Among my favorites: "Fix the problem, not the blame." (Dad) and "Kindness is always an option." (Mom). The process has been shockingly low in family drama. No squabbling. No "thirty years ago YOU..." No finger pointing. Just a quiet acceptance that we now have a new reality to face. Makes for dull writing, what can I say?

The house will soon be on the market. Anyone interested in buying a house in Portland, Oregon? How about a piano? Free to a good home?

The piano, pictures below, is more pretty than sound worthy. It hasn't been tuned since it was given to us back in the 70s. It is short a few keys, having only 84. I guess that was a thing back in the day to be space conservative. One key is broken. I believe we still have the hammer. Trying to research it, it does have some monetary value if you happen to find the right buyer, but we haven't the energy to expend on it. It is a little too big to make a very good paperweight. If you wanted to barricade yourself in a room, it would do a decent job of blocking a door.

It has sentimental value only to me because I'm the only one left in the family who actually met the dying man who left it to us. He was a friend of my father's and it meant a lot to him to have someone to gift it to as he had no other family. The wood is very pretty (the photos don't do it justice) if someone wanted it for that purpose. Anything is better than taking it to the landfill.

Oops, expriencing photo upload difficulties. Well, there's one. If anyone is actually interested, I can send more.

Thanks for the update Mander.

[However, not having thought-provoking or stimulating or irritating things to say isn't an impediment for most of us. wink ]

If you disregard the rest of the pic, I think there's a few tiles (?) from an old piano in our one-of-a-kind floor.

i had an old piano that i needed to get rid of about 20 years ago.
i had to give it away too... well didn't give it away sorta traded it for an old 50s cruiser bike with the fat tires like we use to see at the beach.
it needed total refurbish job... i have done a little to it.. just another project i haven't finished yet.....

I have great memories of Portland as a kid. It was a favorite of my parents because there was no sales tax at the time. The cost of cigarettes was 1/2 the price of here. If I arrived there with $3 to spend it felt like I could leave with $6 worth of stuff . Even though it was only about 6 hours from home it was strange to feel summer heat after dark.

That makes at least two of us with  pianos to give away.  I have my mother's Winter upright that she bought new in the middle 1950's and is free to anyone who will come to South Carolina and get it!  Glad to see your post!
