I think I can help you with that, but I'd like a little more information that might help come up with something that is truly helpful to you. You describe yourself as a novice on your BHO home page. I can produce some basic tab with strums and chords to back up the first verse of the lyrics lyrics (since one of your goals is to learn more English). I can also write clawhammer tab with the melody if that would be useful to you.
Pete Seeger plays this in the key of C, I think. Double-C tuning would work best, but if you're more comfortable in open-G tuning, I can write tab with that in mind. You can find lyrics with chords (but no tab) here - WHEN I FIRST CAME TO THIS LAND CHORDS by Pete Seeger @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com
Let me know what you would like or need.

Thank you very much, I'm definitely more used to playing in open G, but I'm also willing to learn double C tuning. I'd be truly grateful for either one!
I have added two tabs to the Tab Archive for this tune. One is in G tuning, and the other is in double-C tuning. The tabs are meant to provide the chords and a basic strum pattern to acompany singing. (One of the requestor's goals is to improve their English.) The tabs contain the lyrics for the first verse. The song is structured so that a new element (shack, cow, duck. . . ) is add to the previous elements and the verse addss a line for each as the song is built. If you need the full lyrics, let me know. Or you can find them here: WHEN I FIRST CAME TO THIS LAND CHORDS by Pete Seeger @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com
I hope this is helpful. Let me know if you have questions.

P.S. I was wrong about the key Pete Seeger uses. It's C sharp/D flat rather than C, at least according tio my ear.

I've received the file and have already started practicing it. Thank you so much! My major in school is social work, which means I'll have many opportunities to work with children in difficult situations in the future. I hope that one day I can use this song to teach them English and music. I really love the optimistic and resilient spirit this song conveys. Thanks again! xie xie ni.
