My first solo trip was delivering in Manhattan ,, trial by fire! I had a Western Star straight truck with a 26’ box ; the dispatcher sent me a message when I got close to dump my air bags or else I’d set off the over-height alarm in the Lincoln Tunnel. I made it ok , sweating bullets. Then leaving the delivery area I bent back à ladies’ side mirror - she was partway in a parking spot on a narrow street waiting for someone. I gave all my info, asked her NOT to tell my company and I paid the repair bill off over 10 months, sending her cheques (“checks” in ‘Mur’ca). She marveled at how honest us Canadians were.
