I get a clear note from each string without any volume loss.  Mine is a flat fret board but they make one for a radius also.

expensive but worth it...so I bought a spare

• Elliot has a leather strip that sits against the back of the neck, Shubb has rubber.
• Elliot has a cool push-button to release the bale, Schubb has a hinged gate.  Push button may be just the tinitest bit nicer.
• Schubb has a couple of tiny rubber bumers to protect the sides of the neck, Elliott doesn't.
• Elliott has a simple screw for tightening, Shubb has a cool internally threaded nut, so the support moves but the knob doesn't.  Also, it's nicer and has numbers.  I like the Schubb arrangement.
• The Elliot is 10g lighter (25g vs. 35g).

I love the Elliott.  it's a beautiful, light, hand-machined objet-d'arte, while the Schubb, I assume, is made in a factory somewhere.  But, the Schubb works at least as well, and is 40% cheaper.  Objectively, unless you feel strongly about supporting a small US craftsman, or the little bit of weight (10g is 1/3 oz.) is important to you, the Schubb is a great capo for a great price.

Finally a real alternative to the fine, but way overpriced McKinney, Elliott and Showcase capos. Just as sleek with a couple of nice additional features.  First  the adjustment screw is threaded internally so it does not move and is large (but not intrusive) making it easy to grasp and turn.  It also has some tiny rubber bumpers on the inside to help protect the neck from metal to neck contact.  I own a McKinney and I prefer the Shubb.  At $75 this is winner.

I ordered from Elderly, which was the only vendor that even had it listed, including the Shubb website.

After receiving it, I was impressed with the quality it presented out of the box. The capo has numbered

tightening screw, which you can experiment with various pressure settings. so you can minimize how

tight it holds the strings. (Pretty good idea). I found that when properly set on the neck and set with the

the pre-selected pressure, it  kept the banjo pretty well in tune, which saved a lot of the typical tweeking

normally associated with some banjos, (like mine). It truly is a quality product.

The only minus I find is the tightening  screw has such fine threads it takes a lot of time to tighten the capo

after removing it from above the nut, where you normally keep it when not in use. It's something I guess I'll

get used to, but it is unhandy when playing on stage.

Overall, I really like the way it holds tuning and will try to get used to it's one drawback, the time it takes to

get it on the neck and adjusted.
