Nice video you just uploaded Kevin. Would you please explain the violin Tourte Mute. What does it do for the tone to mute two strings like that?

The violin Tourte mute has a similar effect on the banjo as on the violin: it slightly lowers the volume and creates a softer, warmer, more mellow sound, which I wanted for this piece, and because it attaches to the bridge, as it is on a violin, has this effect on all the strings. This effect can be useful in a "live" room or when recording. I use it instead of stuffing a rag or something inside the pot. Another useful feature, which violin players also make use of, is that you can slide it on or off while playing. I made a video of the tune "Chester" where I do just that, and I think you can hear the difference in sound on the video.
