Jam Tracks !

From alfiedog on 1/29/2011 4:38:35 PM

Hey Folks, would you like me to Post some Slow Jam Tracks, so you can Vamp, and Roll along to them. I will Shout the Chord out before the change, its a great way of Learning B/U, and keeping off the Beat. It doesnt matter if you cant put a 1st or 2nd Position Closed Chord down yet, you can Bar, or just use Gm (open jo) Cm, and D7. What do you Guys think ? This will prove to be invaluble, trust me. It is a great, great way of learning. Its been proven at Helsby in the UK, some great Players have come out of there. One thing you will have to excuse my Voice, but if you can live with that, i think Yawl should really enjoy it.

Greatly appreciated...if not too much trouble could you post them in "A" also?

alfiedog says:

Why do you want them in A ?

jwgreene01 says:

At closed jam sessions I attend most songs are in "A". very few in "G". ie Cumberland gap in "A". Cripple Creek in "A". Rolling in My Sweet Baby's Arms "A" (only a couple of times in "G"). East Va Blues "A". Banjo in the Hollow in "A". I Saw The Light "A". Old Joe Clark in "A". examples of "G" Foggy Mountain Brreakdown.

So when I practice songs, I practice in the Key that I play in mostly at jams which is "A".

I have not attended any jam sessions yet but I've always known A is a popular key. convenient isnt it for some other bluegrass instruments in the jam/session?. For this reason most of my singing and vamping/backup practise is in the key of A.

alfiedog says:

Yep its a popular Key, but if you are Singing you have to Play in the Key you Sing in for that particular Song, i dont have a great set of Pipes so most of the stuff i Sing is in G, gont get me wrong i Play Songs in D, and A and Sing but not the Songs i Posted. I can Post em if you want in any Key you want, but God knows what they would Sound like ! I Posted these Tunes so you could Practice B/U ie Vamping, Rolling, Licks etc

Take it from me "LEARN YOUR SONGS IN G" Its Gods Key.

Pablo9364 says:

I know you posted them so we could practise the vamping technique which is great. Thanks for that Eddie

Good point about the singer. A lot of singers have a preferred key for different songs they sing. They often have influence on what key is chosen for the tune then...

Gods key - never heard that before
I wondered why all my gospel tunes for banjo book songs are all in G!

alfiedog says:

I have been at Picks where nearly every Song is Played in a different Key, thats purely because of the Vocalists, Songs in Bb, f#, Eb,

I have removed the original Tracks because the Recordings were really poor quality, due to the Mic i was using. I now have a Mixer, and good Mic, so i am hoping to put some Tracks down soon.
