Murphy Henry has changed my life

From Oalbrets on 3/7/2011 8:16:22 AM

I came to a point in my banjo dream where I didn't think I was going to advance on the banjo. I played the same songs for a year and didn't seem to be advanceing and I almost quit.. I bought the Murphy Method VOL# 1 & 2 begining banjo videos and boy did it change my life. It use to take me forever to learn a song on Tab but with the Murphy Method I learned FMB, Cumberland Gap, John Hardy, Old Joe Clark and I am working on Salt Creek. I learned all these songs within a month from the Video's. I just love them. I would like to thank the Murphy family for all they have done.  Try them, you will enjoy them. And the first thing we have to do is Tune the Banjo.

Hi Guys, Great job Oscar in getting this group set up. Now we need to get the message out to the other 55,000 plus folks on BHO. I'm a Murphy fan and have been for the year that I have been into banjo. "When the student is ready, the instructor will arrive".

I am embarassed to say how long I have been interested in banjo but not in how much Murphy's teaching method has opened a new world for me. I practiced rolls had other DVDs and struggled through tab that never sounded like the original song. I first got one of the more advanced DVD's and didn't make much progress but then I bought starter #1 and #2 and it was like going from unintelligible baby talk to speaking in complete sentences in no time at all. Thank you Murphy and Family!!!

I love the Murphy Method DVDs. I just finished Kaufman Kamp with Murphy and I could not be more impressed. I am inspired to more forward in my playing again. She made everyone in the room feel like they played well. Murphy is an amazing teacher, incredibly funny, and has a powerful stage presence.

I started playing the banjo about a year ago with a Deering Goodtime open back and Murphy's first two dvd's. I am thrilled to have found this material. I'm not very good at learning from tab, and these dvd's have been the ticket to my learning to play. I have been playing music and learned how to play by ear on the guitar as a teenager. I have learned many arrangements from the several Murphy DVD's I have and also have been able to learn my own (simple) arrangements for several other songs. The beauty of these dvd's is that it is like having a teacher, but one that is available to repeat a lesson as many times as is necessary, and is there anytime of the night or day that you want to learn.

Thats Really cool Jim and you know what is really fun? When you get better you can add your own licks to the songs Murphy has taught you. Lots of fun. And there you have it

Just got back from attending Murphy's intermediate camp in Winchester. What a positive banjo experience, Murphy and Cassey were able to blend various levels into a great learning weekend for all. I recommend it to any who want learn by playing more at a camp.

I went to Amazon to check out the DVD's.

There are "Beginning Banjo," (Volumes 1 and 2) published by Mel Bay.

There is "Banjo for Misfits."

I'm assuming that everyone here is talking about the "Beginning Banjo" DVD's, but wanted to make sure.

TIA.

STP
