Detour to the Slow Jam DVD - What a Trip!!

I started learning banjo in May, using BB1, BB2 and Misfits. Learned several songs, and was having the BEST time! Then I signed-up to learn to jam in a Wernick class (Labor Day Weekend). I went into a panic -- I didn't think I could play with other people. So i ordered the MM Slow Jam DVD. It is awesome! I practiced moving from the lead to vamping, and figuring out when/where rolls fit in. I was able to participate in the jam class, and I may even be ready to go to an actual jam soon . . . . .maybe!?

So, if you need to know if you are ready to play with others, I hope the Slow Jam DVD might be as helpful for you as it has been for me.

	capmike says: 9/7/2012 11:01:48 AM I own all 3 jam dvd's. really helps your timing on breaks, and you learn the whole song, not just the break. In the absence of live players, it works great.

Today I revisited Will the Circle be Unbroken (Amazing Grace DVD) which I hadn't played in a long while. There were a few licks I needed to brush up on but overall I had down pat and could play along comfortably with Murphy & Chris. So popped in the Slow Jam DVD and got in some good practice. How was your jam camp with Pete Wernick.. I am curious to know how/what Pete teaches at these camps. I have all his DVDs and he doesn't go into as much detailed explanation/demonstration as Murphy. His camps seem to be very popular so he surely has a good formula for getting folks playing together.
	Delaware says: 9/19/2012 8:43:43 AM Hi Tam Sounds like you have made a TON of progress. I hope I'll get there someday with the help of the Murphy Method! And I am enjoying the heck out of the journey :-) The Wernick class I attended over Labor Day was 6 hours over 3 days. The class met at a Festival (Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival), so it is different than the full "camps" Pete also offers. It was fantastic! The objective of the class is to get people jamming together. I had never played the banjo with other people, so I used it as an opportunity to try out some of the things I am learning from Murphy. It was exactly what I needed!
	tvguy11 says: 11/12/2012 12:10:52 PM Delaware...you are ready for a real jam session and the sooner and more frequently, the better. If you're not comfortable with just jumping in feet first, then go to the jam session and sit a distance away with your banjo and play. The absolute best way to learn to jam with others is by just doing it, asking for advice, and listening to constructive criticism. Get in there and have fun!
	Moonpie50 says: 4/21/2013 3:06:05 AM Not to say anything negative about Pete Wernick, but...I attended one of his Jam classes in Owensboro Ky and I felt he was on the rude side. He snapped at a couple of the students and talked down to one guy. I didn't think that was cool at all especially when they paid him for the class. I am sticking with Murphy! when I progress further I plan on attending some of her classes then.
