I need an education here... why are the old National picks desirable? Thanks...

Two of the most apparent reasons: they were made with excellent metal that produces great tone, and many long-time pickers used them for decades and prefer that same feel today.

Ok I am now a BIG believer in the tonal differences using the Old Nationals ! I dug out my stash of Old national picks to send some to someone and decided to keep a set out for myself (I have been using Kyser brand fingerpicks for a number of years) after all I thought they were the same design and material. Anyway I slipped the picks on and picked up my Old Granada and it was like "BAM" ! an in your face difference in tone ! I picked for a bit and then the Mrs and I had several Saturday errands to run. While we were out I get to thinking ok maybe suttle differences and besides sometimes you pick up the banjo and just by it's nature sometimes we all know they sound better than other times so I figure that's what it was. We get back home and I grab the banjo again - BAM! once more it's still there ! and I notice the picks seem to flow like butter across the strings!. The power of the 3rd string is noticeably different - stronger, the first string more crisp - more of a "splat". Sunday comes around and sure enough I pick up the banjo and it's all still there (the tone difference)!!! I LOVE IT !
