The wood resonator looks like the varnish is pealing off. Not really sure it's varnish, also. I'm not well-versed in old banjo care, and wanted to ask about care of the wood on this 1930 A110.

The same defect on the headstock, too, on the Artists Professional writing.

How to best preserve this?

mosco says: 5/18/2015 8:42:10 AM Shellac, often applied with a French polish technique, is a good choice for any restoration, as it will adhere to virtually any finish that was used in that era. You live in the part of the country where you should be able to easily find a luthier capable of dealing with it.
