I've been fooling around with strings and I think I have settled on gauges at least for now. One of the problems has been that the shorter scale that I have on my Brooks 6, 25 1/2 in., has made the bass strings, especially the low bass flabby feeling.
What I'm using now is, .10, .12, .15, .26, .40, and 10.5 for the short drone. The bass strings are phos. bronze/ I buy the single strings from First Quality.
I play only clawhammer. Sometimes I use the extra bass a lot and sometimes I don't but it always adds fullness to the sound which I like a lot. The modal Cumberland Gap on my page doesn't use the extra bass at all while Julianne Johnson does.
