Hi everyone

Just in case I haven't emailed you direct this is to let you know that the Wakefield Banjo Club is meeting again starting Tuesday 31st July at The Red Lion in Ossett.

We meet from 8pm. There will be the opportunity for you to play in a group pick and I'm sure we'll make time for solo performances too so bring your banjo and join in.

All are welcome from the complete beginner to expert.

I hope to see you there, if you can make it.

Gatherings like this can be a lot of fun especially if they are organised around a jam session. A couple of tunes suggested in advance is a good help. I don't know if any of the members are also singers (I'm not), but a few simple classic bluegrass songs always go down well at jams and give an opportunity to try a bit of banjo back up (or harmony singing). Above all, I think that the informal aspect can put players at ease and calm nerves, especially beginners It's a bit of a drive for me and I'm not sure about Tuesday night but if I can, I'll come down. Is Tim involved or are you going it alone? Cheers Alan
Wardjrz says: 7/30/2012 9:29:42 AM Alan Thanks for your supportive comments. Tim is still invovled and when I last spoke to him was planning to come tomorrow. Not everyone likes the spotlight of a centre stage solo performance, me included, so a group pick was a way to get more involvement from people and to take a bit of pressure off Tim. Playing in a group is very different to playing alone and when I did some group lessons I felt that my timing improved. I'm hoping that each meet we agree a couple of tunes to practice for the following meet. That way people can practice melody or chords and everyone can take part irrespective or their level. It would be good to see you Alan if not tomorrow then at a future meet. Happy Pickin' John
