Hi Fellers
Well I’ve finally got over the excitement of the second Wakefield Banjo Club event, so it’s time to write a short review and line up our next meeting.
It was great to see numbers on the rise with the promise of more people attending next time.
For this event I think we played 7 different tunes a number of times through with people staying in as long as they wanted to or were able. We had some people playing chords and some playing melody and it even sounded great some of the time.
Once we’d played each tune a few times we decided to increase the tempo and see how long we could go, again with people dropping out and picking back up as they were able to.
Tim Howard played guitar to help with the tempo and to provide a background for us. He also ran a short workshop session too and we had a few essentials courtesy of Hobro Music on sale.
We decided to add Old Joe Clark to the playlist for September:
That gives us quite quite a few to go at next time:
Blackberry Blossom
Wildwood Flower
She’ll be Coming Round the Mountain
Little Maggie
Cumberland Gap
Lonesome Road Blues
Cripple Creek
Old Joe Clark
The Group pick seems enjoyable for everyone so we’ll be keeping that and there were a couple of suggestions for the format going forward:
A slow pick – to warm everyone up and so that anyone, whatever ability level can come along and join in.
A spotlight session for anyone who wants to do a solo.
If you have any ideas keep 'em coming.
Different people are taking their banjo journey in different directions and there is room for all at the Wakefield Banjo Club. In fact most of us are keen to hear where each other are going for example by further developing three finger Bluegrass tunes, playing non traditional Banjo tunes, getting into chords, even looking at clawhammer or frailing.
It’s all good and we’re all keen to learn and share.
Our next event is the last Tuesday in September – the 25th, from 8 o’clock.
Post here if you want to add something to the playlist and then everyone will see it. Let me know if you can or can’t make it please.
Keep Pickin’
John
